Cheryl, 48, was a four-time All-American forward at USC. Reggie, 46, played 18 seasons as a shooting guard for the Indiana Pacers.
Anecdotes about the Millers aren't tough to come by. There's the infamous tale about the day Reggie, a sophomore at Riverside Polytechnic High School, went for 33 against crosstown rival Riverside Norte Vista, then came home feeling braggadocious -- until he heard that Cheryl, a senior, had just dropped 105. Reggie loves to tell that one. But at his final regular-season game with the Pacers in 2005, Cheryl had the chance to share her favorite story. Wearing a yellow T-shirt with "We [heart] Reggie" across the front, she reminisced about the day in the summer of 1984 when Reggie was getting ready to head off to UCLA. Cheryl was a junior at USC who had just led the U.S. Olympic women's team to its first gold medal. "We were at the Forum, I won my gold medal and I put it around your neck," Cheryl said. "You looked at me and said, 'I will never do this.' I said, 'Reggie, you can do anything, go anywhere you want.' Twelve years later, I got to watch him win a gold medal."
