Playoff pandemonium, please
NBA: The NBA is not a fan of bananas. Unlike the NHL's first round, which featured four Game 7s, most of the NBA's first-round series already have wrapped up in six or fewer games. The eighth-seeded Grizzlies hope that trend continues as they look to close out the West's top-seeded Spurs in Game 6 tonight at home (9 p.m. ET, ESPN) after losing an overtime thriller in San Antonio on Wednesday. The Spurs are 0-4 in Memphis this season (regular season and playoffs combined). If there is a Game 7, it will be Sunday in San Antonio at 1 p.m. on ABC. ... The Celtics and Heat tip off their highly anticipated Eastern Conference semifinal series in Miami on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on ABC. Boston won three of its four regular-season games against Miami.
NHL: The Stanley Cup conference semis will have a tough time topping the heart-stopping excitement of the first round, but they're going to try. We get started on Friday night when Tampa Bay and Washington face off in Game 1 (7 p.m., Versus). This matchup features premiere goal scorers in Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos and Washington's Alex Ovechkin, as well as an interesting contrast in goal. Caps rookie Michal Neuvirth just completed his first postseason series last week against the Rangers; the Lightning has experience in 41-year-old Dwayne Roloson (40 playoff games). Game 2 of the series will be Sunday at 7 p.m. (Versus).
The Sharks and Red Wings renew playoff acquaintances in San Jose (10 p.m., Versus), facing each other for the third time since 2007 and second consecutive semifinal (San Jose eliminated Detroit last year). The Wings were the only team to sweep a first-round series this year and haven't played in nine days. Game 2 is Sunday at 3 p.m. (NBC).
Boston and Philadelphia drop the puck in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semis on Saturday (3 p.m., NBC). It's a rematch of last year's epic series won by the Flyers in seven games after the Bruins took a 3-0 series lead. ... Vancouver takes a 1-0 series lead over Nashville into Saturday night's Game 2 (9 p.m., Versus).
MLB: Check your local listings for all the regular-season baseball games this weekend. Every team is in action, with a total of 45 games on tap.
