A process of elimination

NBA: The Heat look to put away the Sixers in tonight's Game 5. LeBron James has been solid for Miami throughout the series, averaging 26.4 points, 10.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists. If the Heat can finish off Philly tonight, the Celtics will be rested and ready to do battle in the next round (7 p.m., TNT). ... The eighth-seeded Grizzlies put a beating on the Spurs on Monday to set up a possible elimination game tonight in San Antonio. After a 61-win season, it's hard to believe the top-seeded Spurs might be ousted in the opening round, but this Memphis team looks hungry for a spot in the second round (8:30 p.m., NBA TV). ... The Nuggets stole one from the Thunder on Monday night, but Kevin Durant & Co. still lead the series 3-1 and can punch their ticket to the next round with a win tonight at home. (9:30 p.m., TNT).

NHL: The Canadiens and the Bruins have faced each other in more Game 7s than any other teams in NHL history. Tonight they'll add another chapter to their rivalry. The Habs forced tonight's win-or-go-home finale with Tuesday's 2-1 victory in Montreal, now the Bruins will look to hold home ice and earn a spot in the second round (7 p.m., Versus). ... The Lightning have won two-straight games to storm back from a 3-1 deficit. They'll look to deliver the elimination blow in Game 7 against the Penguins ( 8 p.m.).

MLB: There are a couple of big games on the docket today. The 16-7 Rockies, off to their best start, look to finish a sweep of the Cubs this afternoon at Wrigley (2:20 p.m.). ... The 15-7 Marlins can make their mark in franchise history, as well, as a win today over the Dodgers would give them their best start yet (12:10 p.m.). ... The Indians can win nine straight at home for the first time since 2005 if they top the Royals tonight at Progressive Field (7:05 p.m.). ... The streaking Mets hope to continue their winning ways tonight against the Nationals. After an ugly 2-12 stretch, New York has cut back on errors and has a chance at a sixth-straight win tonight (7:05 p.m.).
