Keep her in the game Mechelle VoepelRisha Grant learned how to makes her weaknesses into strengths through sports.

"It was difficult in basketball, and it can be difficult in business to work on your weaknesses. But that's what makes you better." -- Risha Grant, on what sports taught her

Risha Grant is the founder of Tulsa-based Xposure Inc., a public relations/marketing firm that specializes in diversity communications. Grant worked with former governor Brad Henry to begin "Our Oklahoma," which promotes diversity as a means to stimulate economic/cultural growth. She also serves on several boards, including for the Tulsa Sports Commission. She was among a group of civic leaders honored by the WNBA's Tulsa Shock last Saturday.

Grant played collegiate basketball at Kansas State from 1994-96. She says among the many things sports taught her was how to improve the things you don't do well.

"I'm left-handed, and early on in high school when I was playing basketball, I'd hear people say, 'Force her to go right; she can't dribble right,'" Grant said. "So my dad would tie my left hand up, and then I would dribble all over the neighborhood at 6 a.m. right-handed so I could be strong with my right.

"So now when I look at my business, I think, 'What's my weakness, and what do I need to do every day to strengthen that?' It was difficult in basketball, and it can be difficult in business to work on your weaknesses. But that's what makes you better."
