Olympic hockey gold medalist Angela Ruggiero was named president-elect of the Women's Sports Foundation on Wednesday. Ruggiero will succeed Laila Ali in 2013.
"The Women's Sports Foundation holds a unique position in developing opportunities for girls and women of all abilities to be active whether recreationally or competitively, and I'm excited to help lead the organization to impact even more lives," said Ruggiero, who joined the Women's Sports Foundation board of trustees in January 2010. "It is an honor to continue to build the legacy created by Billie Jean King and all of our leaders."
The Women's Sports Foundation also added New York Yankees vice president Jean Afterman; McGraw-Hill Companies chief diversity officer Terri D. Austin; WNBA MVP Tamika Catchings; and Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott to its board of trustees.
Ruggiero will serve a two-year term as president.
